Strömgrensphere Benchmark

In this Benchmark a ProDiMo is compared to the theoretical results for the Strömgrensphere. In particular, the H/H+ transition is compared to the theoretical prediction for the Strömgren radius.

A disk or a spherical Envelope structure is placed around an O type star and it is assumed that the structure is essentially dust-free. Below you find the results. More details on the Benchmark can be found in the ProDiMo source distribution examples/Benchmarks/Benchmark_STROEMGREN. There you can also find the input files to run those Benchmarks yourself.

Disk structure

This Figure shows the H+\mathrm{H^+}/H\mathrm{H} ratio in the disk. The dashed white line indicates the Strömgren radius using the analytical method.

Envelope structure

Example outputs for the Benchmark using a spherical envelope structure instead of the disk. The envelope has a constant number density of 1000cm31000\,\mathrm{cm^{-3}}. From top left to bottom right, the plots show the temperature, H abundance, H+\mathrm{H^+} abundance and the H and H+\mathrm{H^+} abundance in the midplane of the structure. The grey dashed lines indicate the analytical solution for the Strömgren radius. In the midplane plot, two analytical solutions are shown, one for a temperature-dependent recombination rate and one for a temperature-independent recombination rate. The script to make these plots is included in the above-mentioned Benchmark directory.
